St. Thomas College of Teacher Education owes its existence to God through the farsighted vision of His Excellency Mar George Punnakottil and late Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Puthenkulam, the then Secretary of the Corporate Educational Agency, Diocese of Kothamangalam. It is one of the outstanding colleges established and administered by the said agency in accordance with the rights of the minority community guaranteed in the Constitution of India. St.Thomas College of Teacher Education has been declared as a Minority Educational Institution on 13.09.201 1, covered under section 2(g) of National Commission for Minority Educational Institution Act 2004.
St.Thomas College of Teacher Education, Mylacompu, was established in the year 2005 as a self-financing institution affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University , Kottayam and recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) F .KL/SEC/N/328/SRO/NCTE/2004-2005/764 Dtd. 23-02-2005. The college started functioning on 20th July 2005 with 100 students on the rolls for B.Ed Degree Course. Permission to start M.Ed. Degree Course was received on 5-1-2006 and the affiliation on 7-1-2008. NCTE granted permission to start M.Ed course on 15th February 2008. Classes began for the first batch of 25 M.Ed students on 25-02-2008Mangement
St. Thomas College of Teacher Education is one of the ventures of the Diocese of Kothamangalam in the field of education. Under its management there are 99 aided schools, five affiliated colleges, one TTI and three technical institutions. The Kothamangalam Diocese always has been in the forefront in serving the society and the cause of education for the last five decades of its existence. Behind each of its famed educational institutions is the unflagging effort of the people of the Diocese.
