Tobacco and tobacco products are a curse to the society and the world has recognized it for long. Countries all over the world have been initiating various measures to curb this menace. India has also been in the forefront to fight this social evil. The Government of Kerala under section 6 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of advertisement and Regulation of trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA) has prohibited the sale of tobacco products to and by minors and in an area within a radius of 400 yards of an educational institution. In order to implement COTPA and the rules made there under a Tobacco Control Cell was formed in the college under the guidance of a Nodal teacher.
The main Objectives of the cell are
- To ensure that no Tobacco products of whatever nature are sold within 400 yards measured radially starting from the outer limit of the boundary wall or fence of the college
- To set the law in motion against the violators of the provisions of COTPA and its allied rules.
The action of the above shall be taken within fifteen days from the date of receipt of the information regarding the violation.
